The island’s capital: the Calatrava concert hall, the Rambla, Las Teresitas beach and the biggest carnival in Spain.
Santa Cruz is a proper port city, with government offices, shops, museums and the white shell of Santiago Calatrava’s Auditorio on the waterfront. The leafy Rambla and the streets around the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África are some of the most pleasant places to live on the island.
The golden sand of Las Teresitas lies just past San Andrés, at the foot of the Anaga mountains, and the tram connects the centre to La Laguna. Housing is mainly apartments, with a steady demand for long-term rental.
